Oceanfront rental in Nags Head, NC

What? NO Spectrum/Charter TV?

Yes, that’s right. There is no Charter/Spectrum streaming available. Here’s why. I contacted Spectrum, who is the sole provider of decent high-speed internet on the island, about the huge monthly bill for cable service for 5 rooms. A big chunk of money each month went to equipment charges for the rental of digital tv ‘boxes’ for each set’s channels. At that time, Spectrum assured me we could switch from standard cable service to a high-speed internet connection, place a Roku box in each room, and stream the Spectrum tv app to the tv’s. Well, when it came time to go to full streaming, Lo and Behold! The Spectrum app is NOT available to load on the Roku boxes due to “Despite our best efforts to reach an agreement, Roku has not accepted Spectrum’s offer to continue our contract that allowed customers to access the Spectrum TV app on Roku devices.” That was and is the the current situation.

So now, what to do for Live TV? The option we chose for the 2021 season is to provide YouTube TV. It’s the only livestreaming service that includes PBS stations and content, and its selection of over 85 traditional cable and broadcast channels grows on a regular basis. Plus, 3 streams concurrently, a cloud DVR option, and the ability to watch local channels for this area. Personally, we are Dish subscribers at home, this subscription allows many services to be viewed. We have left many services logged on, so most likely, there is plenty to pick from at the first of the season until guests log it out and use their own accounts. There is also a Hulu subscription available. Many folks have their own streaming accounts. The sound bar is Alexa-enabled, lots of music available there as well as the SiriusXM subscription provided.

The sound quit playing when the next episode/show came on.

We have noticed when watching a series on Netflix, once in a while when the next episode comes on, there is no sound. Here’s how to restore the sound. Use the back arrow to stop playback, wait a bit then start again. Sometimes it helps to exit the show back to the guide and wait briefly, the sound has always come back on.
